Meet Matt
Matt is a Michigan-based attorney who specializes in legal matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Matt received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan College of Engineering and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Before attending law school, Matt was a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry.
While attending law school, Matt attained his Patent Agent License and clerked for Young Basile, an intellectual property law firm based out of Troy, Michigan. Thereafter, Matt became an associate attorney for Young Basile where he prepared and prosecuted many patents and trademarks for a wide range of clients, from technology companies with well-established portfolios to start-ups new to intellectual property. While at Young Basile, Matt also acquired extensive experience reviewing complex IP portfolios and strategically guiding clients’ IP strategies based thereon.
Matt was ranked #1 in his law school class and received Book Awards in thirteen classes (highest grade). Matt was on the Deans List all semesters of law school and was admitted to the Justice Frank Murphy Honor Society. Matt was the Intellectual Property Fellow during law school and participated in the intellectual property pro-bono clinic for multiple semesters.
Matt was named a Rising Star in Super Lawyers 2025.
